Chelsea 1 – 1 ManU

May 24, 2007 Kurt 1 comment

Now this is not a match result, rather we can call it a Title result. Out of the Major 3 possible titles (am not counting the Carling Cup, which Chelsea had won)  Chelsea & ManU both won each.

ManU, this was the best year for ManU to win all the three tittles, but they just managed to win the Priemier League. They also had the best (young) talent this season. They could have went on to be the European Champions if it was not for A.C. Milan & Kaka, who ruined their party by defeating them in the Semi-Finals. Cristanio Ronaldo has been @ the top of his form this year & this has rightfully earned him Awards for both Best Player of the year & Best Young of the year. Besides Ronaldo, Carrick, Rooney, Solskjaer have been in good form. Some(read Pro ManU) would say, this was the easiest EPL win for ManU, coz majority of the Big Clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, New Castle, etc… put up a poor show. But atleast they did their part of winning all their matches. None the less it was a really good season for ManU, not exactly a fairly tale finish… But its good to have them back….

Chelsea, this year has not been gr8 for them. A lot of questions have been rasied on Jose’s future with the club. They had a Star-Studded team, but most of the stars failed to shine, Ballack & Shevchenko namely. While Ballack was injured most of the time, Shevchenko tried really hard to justify that his signing amount was worth every penny, but Lady Luck was not kind enough. Drojba has been the pick of the lot along with Joe Cole, Mikel, Wright Philips. The Team was not on their peak this season, which resulted in their slip from the top spot in EPL & concede the title to ManU. They lacked fire in them, which was seen in abundance in their rivals ManU. The only consolation for Chelsea came in the form of FA Cup Win, to top it all they won the FA Cup by defeating ManU :) . All in all not a very good season for the Blues, hope to see a better performance from them next time around.

Round Of 16…

March 9, 2007 Kurt 4 comments

As most you might have guessed it by now, this post is like most of my other posts which i have posted earlier on this blog & others blogs is abt FOOTBALL… :)

It was after a very long time tht i decided to watch an UEFA Champions League match @ night & I must tell you it was worth all the sleep that i lost, coz its not everyday tht u get to see two Gaints like Liverpool & Barcelona play.

Dt: 06-Feb-2007, 12:45 am
Liverpool v/s Barcelona

Barcelona was in a Do/Die situation; the Defending Champions had to win this match by atleast 2 goals. The atmosphere was electrifying(as usual), with all Liverpool fans singing for their team coz they knew they(Liverpool) were having the upper hand in the match. After kick-off there was no stopping Liverpool they were all over Barca & their attack was spearheaded by Risse (yes, the Liverpool defender); 3 times he came close to scoring a goal, 2 times of which he was denied by the Crossbar. Valdes(Barca Goal-Keeper) was having a real tough time. 30 minutes into the game & The Reds had 9 shots on Goal & Barca had 0 (very unlike Barca) . The only saving grace from Barca was Messi, he was the one who was running around trying to create chances for Barca to score. The score remained 0-0 till half time, with Liverpool dominating the first half.
In the Second half Barca looked more composed & started passing the ball
around quite nicely. Ronaldinho also came close to scoring, but again was denied by the WoodWork. In the end it was Barca who drew first blood & the goal scorer was none other than Former Chelsea striker Gudjohnsen . He scored within few minutes of his substitution. In the end Braca tried to put Liverpool under a lot of pressure, but they were a tough nut to crack tht easily. Though Barca won the match, they were knocked out of Champions league on the basis Away goals.

Basically Braca didn’t look/play like the Defending Champs. For me there was only one Man-of-the-Match & tht was

The Goal-Post… :D , coz it blocked 4 sure goals…

Amidst all this action, i suddenly happened to notice a small marquee @ the bottom of my TV screen & my heart almost skipped a beat. They were showing scores from other Live Champions League matches. The score tht made me fall of my bed was of the match between Chelsea & F.C. Porto. I think it was in the 33rd minute tht i first took notice of the live score update & the score-line was Chelsea 0 – 1 F.C.Porto(noname.java 15). The score remained tht way until half-time. The marquee re-appeared after a period of 10 mins. When it appeared @ around th 55th minute of the match, my heartbeat was back to normal, coz now the scoreline was (Robben 48)Chelsea 1 – 1 F.C. Porto (noname.java 15). I had to wait till the 85th minute to get my lost smile back :) , yes Chelsea had taken the lead thanks to Ballack. The scoreline remained tht way till the end. i.e. Chelsea 2 – 1 F.C. Porto

Bayern Munich v/s Real Madrid
I also happened to see the Fastest Goal in UCL History (tht too Live, obviously on T.V.) by Makkay from Bayern Munich… :)
Yes, Real Madrid proved again tht they are no longer a Champion Squad & are just a bunch of ppl playing together, coz they get paid(heavily) for doing tht. Eventually Bayern went on to win the match on the Basis of Away Goals. Final score was Bayern Munich 2 – 1 Real Madrid

We won it…

YES!!!
You know Darling;
We won Carling… :D
Ppl, we (read CHELSEA) have won the Carling Cup!!!
With one title in our bag, now we should concentrate to win the rest. This title win should surly do wonders to our confidence (am really keeping my fingers crossed on this…)

Facts Abt d Match:-
Arsenal came into this match as d underdogs, as they were playing their reserves & not their 1st team (actually their reserves played better than their Best team would have). Whereas Chelsea had fielded their best players (though some were still injured) for the finals, i guess this shows how desperately Jose wanted to win the CUP.

The young Arsenal Team drew First Blood in the 12th minute of the match; Walcott being the goal scorer for Arsenal (guys, watch out for this fellow). Chelsea had to wait till the second half to get even and just before the end of play they scored the vital goal to clinch victory; it was Didier Drojba (our savior this year) who netted both goals for the Blues. The win for the Blues came @ d cost of their Captain John Terry, he was taken off field in an unconscious state on a stretcher. :(

The main highlight of this match was not Chelsea’s victory or Terry’s injury, but the things tht happened after d match. It was almost end of the match and a War Broke out between the two teams. It looked really bad to see them fighting like kids. Arsenal were acting as cry babies, they couldn’t digest the fact that they lost to a Brilliant Team :D

If you guys missed the action don’t worry, i got this video for you.

Clash of Titans…

November 27, 2006 Kurt 7 comments

Hi all,

It was indeed Clash of Titans. Yesterday (i.e. 26Th November), i along wid the millions of others worldwide saw two Premiership Giants ManU & Chelsea, clash against each-other @ Old Trafford. Now ManU was in a bad mood after their loss against Celtic in UEFA Championship Group matches. Ferguson was quoted saying, “We’ll avenge our Championship loss by defeating Chelsea @ home…”. I know tht’s a brave statement to make, but Alex is known to make such statements.

Abt the match:
It was a very well contested match, both the teams played some good football. ManU with backing of their home crowd started off with a bang & took Chelsea completely off guard. Ronaldo spear-headed ManU’s attack, with his sheer speed he made A Cole life a living Hell. Chelsea managed to break most their attack even though they had some goof-ups in their defense. In the process they also took some shots @ ManU’s goal. It was ManU who drew the first blood & it was none other than Luis Saha who found the back of the net. Just as he scored the entire stadium burst into a roar, all the ManU fans were shouting, jumping & cheering for their team. Soon it was half time & it looked as if ManU would run away with an easy win.

Second half was a complete different story. They had an early change, Robben was introduced into the attack. Chelsea had fire in their eyes which was missing in the first half (i wonder wht did Jose do in the changing room??). Suddenly one could see ManU on the back-foot, they had majority of their ppl in the defense. Chelsea kept the pressure on ManU and finally they succeeded in scoring. It was a corner kick & the scorer this time was Caralvanho (the Portugal Defender). After the goal the stadium went dead silent, only the away fans were cheering this time around. ManU did try to come back but their attack was killed in the bud itself. Soon its was full-time & the scoreline was ManU 1 – Chelsea 1.

After the match Jose Mourinho was quoted saying, “It’s a fair result, ManU were best in the first half & Chelsea were best in the second half.”

In all the match was a true entertainer. I felt the referee was a jackass coz he gave away a lot of unwanted fouls against Chelsea. It was indeed a high voltage game. Looking forward to see many more games like this…

It’s not always OBVIOUS

October 19, 2006 Kurt 4 comments

Hi all,

OBVIOUS – What does it mean???
Obviously it means obvious… :D
Jokes apart, Obvious to me is :- Easily perceived or understood; quite apparent.

Getting back to the topic…. “It’s not always OBVIOUS
I realised the real value of this line yesterday. Not that i never thought about it, but yesterday the above line got stuck in my head and i decided to wirte about it…..

The main reason for this to happen was the two matches i saw yesterday.
1. Australia v/s West Indies (Cricket)
2. Chelsea v/s Barcelona (Soccer)

In both the matches, the teams who were OBVIOUS to win, didn’t win.

In the Fist match…
Australia were the clear favourites. But West Indies defying the odds, slipped away with the WIN. As obivous assuies gave them a good run for their money but Windies fought back and snatched away victory from the aussies. Windies showed a good all-round performance. The match also saw the First Hatrick in a One Day International (ODI) by a West Indian Bowler…
After a loooooooooong time i was glued to T.V. watching a cricket match and i really enjoyed the Aussie ass being kicked by the Under Dogs…

In the Second match…
Chelsea were up against Barcelona, being a die-hard Chelsea Fan. I from the bottom of my heart wanted Chelsea to win. But Barcelona were OBVIOUS to win the match, coz they were in good form and Chelsea were not on the top of their game.Chelsea were banking on their 3rd Goal Keeper to fill in for their Mainline Goalies… Both the goalies had suffered some serious injuries while playing against Reading.
The match started with a bang as Messi was testing the Chelsea defence line. Soon Chelsea got back into the game, with some good shots on the opponent’s goal. The first half ended goalless, with both the teams having fair amount of chances. The first goal came in the 2nd half. It was Drojba from Chelsea who scored the goal. In the closing stages of the match, Chelsea were put under huge pressure by the Barca forwards…
But the stand-in keeper did a very good job in denying the visitors. Chelsea went on to win the match 1-0. :)

Am not saying that Aussie & Barca didn’t deserve to lose, my point is “It’s not always OBVIOUS:D

World Cup @ POPTATES!!!

August 6, 2006 Kurt 19 comments

This post is about my best experience of watching a match live in a sports bar.

This Sports Bar is located @ Mulund, Mumbai, India. And is called POPTATES

Lights, Camera, Action:-

The day didn’t start as any other day. I had to get up early coz I had to appear for my M.S. Sem II exams. Since it was an open book exam I had hardly opened the book before. Also I had slept really late, since I was up late night watching the earlier day World Cup matches.

I reached the exam centre well before time, only to find that the exam will be starting late by 1 hr. Since it was an open book exam no one really cared to have a last minute revision expect for a group of suckers (I don’t want to take names here). Rest everyone was discussing the details about the previous day matches. Soon the exams started & as alweyz the first paper was a cake walk for most of the students & the exam after lunch was really pathetic (I don’t even remember what the paper was, & I don’t want anyone to help me in remembering that). So after the exams were over, we all started to plan for an outing, we call it “Night is Young” plan… (actually the term was coined by me, snehal can vote for tht)

So it was decided that we’ll be going to POPTATES to watch the match between England & PORTUGAL. Intially everyone agreed but only 4 ppl lasted in the end. Kurt, Shivam, Ziom, Snehal were the fantastic four. As usual snehal started cribbing ki he has some work @ home (he usually has some excuses with him for not coming out with frenz). So the no. reduced to 3. It was agreed that I’ll meet them @ POPTATES directly @ 7.30. We had planned to reach there early coz it was a weekend n it would be really crowded out there.

By the time I reached Shivam & Ziom had registered our names with the attendant. All this time Shivam was bragging about him knowing a manager named John @ POPTATES, & it will be easy for us to get in. But things were different out there, but I must give shivam some credit in getting us in even though we entered 10 mins after the start of the match. Inside the atmosphere was absolutely electric, everybody was enjoying the game. “Some were in high spirits” and “some were high on spirits :) . Luckily we got a seat near the gaint screen. Just as we entered England came close to score a goal, the whole crowd in unison said “Ohh, Shit man!!!”. I was the only one who was cheering for PORTUGAL & everytime they came 30 meters close to the goal, I would start jumping up & down on my table. Each & every move on the field was appreciated by the crowd.

The scores @ halftime was 0-0, and ppl were even more exicted coz they knew very well that both the teams will be charged up after the Halftime. The Second-Half was much more eventful than we ever thought. First Beckham was replaced by Lennon & Second and the major blow, Rooney was red carded for stepping on Carlvanho’s groin & then pushing C. Ronaldo (his teammate from Old Trafford). After that incident the whole crowd went slient, with only me dancing around, I could feel the eyes of the ppl on me, waiting to get their hands on me. There was a spring in the footsteps of PORTUGAL players after England was reduced to 10 men. They made the life miserable for the England Defenders & Midfielders. During the Injury time of the Second half, PORTUGAL scored a goal & I instantly jumped from my seat & started dancing around, again the crowd went silent. But as soon as the referees assistant raised the flag to declare the goal not void the whole Bar came to life again. My frenz started teasing & cussing me. Neways the Final score was 0-0.

PORTUGAL held a strong hold over the game during Extra time. Luis Figo was playing @ his best proving all his critics wrong. Plz make a note PORTUGAL were playing without 3 of their best players, who were red-carded in their WAR against Netherlands. The 30 mins went by in a flash, in which Maniche missed the goal atleast 10 times. Ziom, was really happy abt the fact that Maniche was missing the goal, some by inches & some by miles. As the extra time came to close England had a beautiful chance, but the match was destined to reach the Penalty Shootouts, so the ball hit the Woodwork and went out of play. Once the final whistle blew. Myself & shivam were totally dejected coz, we both believe that once a team reaches so far, there should not be any losers. (I know it’s a strange theory)

So we both were sitting in the corner with our heads down, the entire crowd was cheering for England. Soon the penalty shootout started. Ricardo was the hero for Portugal with saves from Lampard, Gerrard and Carragher before Ronaldo tucked away the winning spot-kick. It was a familiar tale for England, who once again exited from a major tournament on penalties following a brave display by Portugal.

The entire crowd went dead silent once Ronaldo had hit the final nail on England’s World Cup dreams. Am sure some people had a tear or two in their eyes. There was pin-drop silence in the whole Bar. After a few minutes the Bar Manager changed the channel & there was a Cricket match being played between India & West Indies. Soon after he changed the channel Harbhajan Singh took a wicket & the entire Crowd went berserk. People who were sad a few moments ago, started cheering for our very own Country. The experience was outsanding, I get goose bums everytime I think of that moment.

I must admit I was so thrilled by the whole experience that I decided to write a blog on the whole thing. Please forgive if there are any grammatical mistakes, coz this post was written in a 1/2 hours time.
